Rob Watt has worked extensively in the field of Addiction and treats a variety of different conditions including addiction to alcohol, drugs and gambling, however he has developed an interest and speciality in treatment of sex addiction and childhood trauma.
Working with individuals, couples and families he delivers workshops and facilitates group therapy on conditions including sexual compulsivity, and provides a safe, empathic and sensitive environment. He works extensively with childhood trauma and family of origin dysfunction, and the resulting distorted coping strategies and thinking. Additionally he provides clinical and management supervision for professionals working in the field.
Until July 2012, Rob worked for many years at the Priory, gaining extensive experience in delivering addiction treatment programmes. At that facility he worked with clients suffering from Axis 1 & 2 diagnosis, anxiety, borderline personality disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, OCD, eating disorders, as well as a DSM-IV diagnosed drug, alcohol, sex, gambling dependency diagnoses. He has been instrumental in developing both a primary addiction treatment programme and a programme addressing childhood trauma in the leading treatment facility in Europe
Rob uses an integrative approach to therapy, drawing upon models including Humanistic, psychoanalytic and psychodynamic, Motivational Interviewing, the 12 Steps, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), Gestalt, Systemic and Transactional Analysis. He currently sits on the board of trustees of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC), he is an accredited member of the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
