Sylvia Milton is a multi-qualified psychotherapist with 24 years’ experience. With a Master’s degree in Mental Health, she is also qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Hypnotherapy, EMDR and Psychodynamic Counselling. She is a Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and a COSRT Accredited and UKCP Registered Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist. She has run a highly successful private practice for many years.
Prior to her 17 years at Guy’s Hospital Sex and Relationship Clinic, Sylvia served at the Samaritans for 15 years, becoming a Trainer as well as the London Regional Representative for Outreach Work for the 16 London branches of Samaritans. She has also worked on numerous helplines for the media including Thames TV, Capital Radio, Carlton TV and London Weekend Television as well as working with the Queen’s Jubilee Trust. She was, for 8 years, LBC Radio’s late night on-air counsellor as well as presenting her own two-hourly, 5 nights a week counselling phone-in programme on LBC.
Sylvia has also appeared as a Guest Expert on numerous TV shows and other radio stations including Capital Radio and Talk Radio. She is the resident expert on sex and relationship issues on Live TV’s weekly Sex Show.
In addition to private therapy practice, Sylvia has a wealth of experience in the corporate and public sector. For example she has presented at conferences for occupational health, medical forums and to general audiences on personal, professional and broadcasting issues. She has designed and delivered groups on Mindfulness, Hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Assertiveness and Stress Management for three of the Priory Group hospitals. She has set up supervisory groups for occupational health advisers and designed and delivered training programmes for occupational health managers and advisers for Blue Chip companies and the public sector. She has also counselled and provided training for the Police force on Post-Traumatic Stress and other wellbeing issues. She has been called to provide therapeutic support for high-profile disasters such as the Lockerbie Air Crash, The Marchioness Disaster, The Herald of Free Enterprise and the Docklands Bombing.
