Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Evangelia Tsapakis is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist, having spent over 20 years in the field of clinical psychiatry. She specialises in General Adult Psychiatry (Certificate of Completion of Training, 2011) and now brings the benefit of her expertise to The London Psychiatry Centre.
Having graduated from St. George’s London with a degree in Medicine (MBBS), Dr Tsapakis then completed further training at the Maudsley and Royal Bethlem Hospitals. She went on to subspecialise in bipolar disorders at McLean Hospital at Harvard Medical School on the prestigious 2003 Travelling Fellowship awarded by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She gained a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from King’s College London, an MSc in Affective Neurosciences from the University of Maastricht, and a Diploma in Behavioural Cognitive Therapy from St. George’s London. She also conducted pharmacogenetic research leading to a PhD in Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London, and the Mailman Research Center at Harvard Medical School.
Alongside her work at The London Psychiatry Centre, Dr Tsapakis leads the eating disorders service at the 3rd Department of Psychiatry, AHEPA University General Hospital of Thessaloniki. Here, she leads a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the management of the whole spectrum of eating disorders. She is also actively involved in education, and is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
She has directed a 36-bed in-patient private mental health unit for 12 years, after working at the Maudsley and Royal Bethlem Hospitals in South London.
Dr Tsapakis has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has been a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 2003.
